Southern Dragons

SAMMNA boasts a rich and illustrious history of producing some of the finest men's and mixed netball talent in Australia.

Historically, we have delivered strong performances in the Nullabor Cup series, competing fiercely against South East Queensland and Western Australia. We have since returned to the prestigious AMMNA Championships, where we now compete against the nation's best teams.

In 2016, the Southern Dragons made their debut at the Australian Men's and Mixed Netball Association National Championships with three teams. In 2017, we returned with five teams, achieving more victories, more finals appearances, and increased representation in All-Australian teams. Our momentum continued in 2018, with five teams competing and several making it to the finals. After the AMMNA Championships were canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, we were thrilled to host the Championships in South Australia for the first time in over 27 years. In 2022, the Southern Dragons fielded five teams, with multiple teams reaching the finals, and our 17 & Under Boys team securing a Silver Medal in the Grand Final.

Buoyed by our success in 2022, our squad aimed to replicate this triumph at the 2023 AMMNA Championships in Perth. This marked our first interstate championship since 2019 due to the pandemic. The Southern Dragons sent five teams (Open Men's, Reserve Men's, Reserve Mixed, 23 & Under Men's, and 17 & Under Boys) and achieved our most successful campaign in history. Our Reserve Mixed team won gold, the 17 & Under Boys earned silver for the second consecutive year, and both the Reserve Men's and 23 & Under Men's teams secured bronze.

In 2024, South Australia celebrated another historic year, with our 17 & Under Boys and 23 & Under Men's teams both winning Silver Medals. Our Open Men's team secured several wins, and we made a strong return to the Open Mixed division with a finals appearance. Additionally, 21 South Australian athletes were selected for Australian squads, marking the highest number in our history.
