Southern Dragons

SAMMNA has a very strong and healthy history of producing some of the best men's and mixed netballers in Australia.

We have previously had a very strong and competitive showing in the Nullabor Cup series competing against South East Queensland and Western Australia, however we have now returned to the true National Championships (AMMNA Championships) and compete against the best in Australia.

In 2016, the Southern Dragons sent 3 teams to the Australian Men's and Mixed Netball Association National Championships for the first time. In 2017 we returned to the AMMNA Championships with 5 teams and a lot more fire. We had more wins, more finals positions and more representatives selected in All-Australian teams. We continued this strength in 2018, sending another 5 teams to compete at the Championships, with a number of teams making the finals. After multiple cancelled AMMNA Championships in both 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, we were ecstatic to resume the annual AMMNA Championships on our home court here in South Australia. This was the first time in over 27 years that the SAMMNA had hosted the annual Championships. The Southern Dragons had 5 teams participate in the 2022 Championships with multiple teams making the finals and our 17 & Under Boys making it to the Grand Final, winning a Silver Medal.

Following a success campaign on home soil 2022, our squad was determined to continue this success when they travelled to Perth for the 2023 AMMNA Championships. This was the first time since 2019 that our squad had travelled interstate for a National Championship, due to COVID-19. The Southern Dragons sent 5 teams to Perth (Open Men's, Reserve Men's, Reserve Mixed, 23 & Under Men's and 17 & Under Boys) to compete at the National Championships. We are delighted to announce this was the Southern Dragons most successful campaign in history, with our Reserve Mixed team winning a gold medal, our 17 & Under boys winning a Silver Medal for the second consecutive year and our Reserve Men's and 23 & Under Men's teams winning bronze.

Looking ahead to 2024, we see a fresh opportunity to aim for championship glory, and we're ready to embrace it.
